Bei den T5 Leuchtstoffröhren in Ringform handelt es sich um Röhren mit einem Durchmesser von 5/8 Zoll, was in etwa 16 Millimetern entspricht und im Vergleich zur T9-Leuchtstoffröhre mit 30 Millimetern wesentlich schmaler ist. Durch ihre runde Form eignen sie sich vor allem als Wand- oder auch Deckenlampen und leuchten große Flächen gleichmäßig aus. Die Lumen-Zahl variiert je nach Watt und Farbton und kann sehr helle 5.000 Lumen erreichen. Die Leuchtstoffröhren sind ebenso auch als T9 Röhren in Ringform mit einem Röhrendurchmesser von 29 Millimetern erhältlich.Für den einwandfreien Gebrauch der T5-Leuchtstoffröhre wird ein elektrisches Vorschaltgerät benötigt. Erst durch dieses Gerät wird die Initialzündung des Leuchtgases möglich.
